Character Education Initiatives

Character education is foundational at Oakcrest—Responsibility, Respect, Caring, Fairness, Trustworthiness, and Citizenship.

Character education is a foundational building block at Oakcrest Preparatory Academy. Our character components are Responsibility, Respect, Caring, Fairness, Trustworthiness, and Citizenship. The 7 Habits of Happy Kids is a core part of our character education programs.

The 7 Habits of Happy Kids by Sean Covey helps students ages 2 and up learn time-tested principles of good character. The program uses characters and stories to teach children to be proactive, positive, and broad thinkers—and to look for win-win outcomes. It is discussion-driven, with interactive group conversation. Themes include having a plan, work before play, everyone can win, listen before speaking, together is better, and balance is best.

Character education for after-school students is more comprehensive than our preschool program. School-age children work with Cooperation, Responsibility, Dealing with Feelings, Saying No, Doing the Right Thing, Disappointment, Appreciating Yourself, Asking for Help, Being a Good Friend, and Resolving Conflicts. Teachers reference character components during homework, free play, and social interactions.
